STOCKHOLM PLACEMENT WEEK

Last week I was in Stockholm for my first interpreter placement! It's been such a great experience from start to finish, so I decided to do a longer post about everything that went on. I was at an interpreters firm, and because of confidentiality I can't say much, but I can say that the workplace is absolutely lovely, everyone is so sweet, supportive and talented, and I’ve learned so much!! I've gotten to see interpreting in culture and performance, which is truly my dream to work with. I’ve also learned a lot of new signs and things about deaf culture and the world of interpreting sign! I feel so sad to be leaving, but happy knowing that I want to work towards applying for a job here once I’ve graduated.
I've gotten the opportunity to wear some interpreter-appropriate outfits too, that I decided to document for the blog (I censored the firm's nameplate). It's exciting to find your professional identity when you are so excited about your profession! (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)
Sign language interpreters need to wear contrasting colours to their skin tone, to create a "background" for their hands, and also simple textures to avoid distractions.
During the week I lived by myself in a little flat near Hötorget in Stockholm, cooked for myself and commuted to the office. It was really nice to experience living by myself as an older, more functional adult... I'm definitely better at taking care of myself now compared to when I was at university... (ᵕ—ᴗ—)
My only regret is not bringing better winter clothes, I was freezing the entire week. I wore a fleece and a down coat, but apparently it wasn't enough!

Even though I was completely exhausted, I tried to go out and entertain myself in the evenings, mostly to avoid falling asleep at 7pm. /ᐠ - ˕ -マᶻ 𝗓 𐰁
Amongst other things, I went to see Zootropolis 2, which was very funny and sweet! I love going to the cinema on my own. I also did some shopping, and spent an afternoon reading in a cafe.
Thursday evening I met up with two of my Stockholm-based friends Eric and Edith, at this place called Morfar Ginko & Pappa Ray Ray, on Södermalm, that Eric suggested. It was really cozy and they had great pizza. I was so so happy to get to see my friends while visiting!! Here are some pictures, delicious and cute, in that order:
And now I'm back home nursing a cold after last week. Hopefully I will be back on my feet and ready to take on the rest of this academic year soon!!
Thanks for reading ‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹
